Safeguarding Policy

How CurioKids keeps children safe in live online lessons, and how to report a concern.

Version 1.0Last updated

If a child is in immediate danger

Call the police on 999 in Singapore or Malaysia, or your local emergency number, straight away. Then tell us, so we can act on our side too.

The short version

  • Children’s safety comes first in everything we do.
  • Teachers can’t teach until our team has confirmed a background check and they have signed our teaching agreement.
  • Lessons are 1-to-1 and happen only inside the CurioKids classroom. Teachers can’t send messages to children.
  • A “Report a concern” button is in every lesson and throughout the app. You can also email our safeguarding lead at hello@curiokidslearning.com.
  • If a child is in immediate danger, call the police on 999 (Singapore and Malaysia) first.

1.Our commitment

CurioKids teaches children aged 4–12 in live online lessons. Keeping them safe is our first duty. We believe that:

  • a child’s welfare always comes first;
  • every child has the right to be safe, whatever their age, background, ability or needs;
  • everyone who works with children at CurioKids is responsible for keeping them safe and must report any concern;
  • every concern is taken seriously and acted on;
  • we work with parents, and share information with the authorities when that is needed to protect a child.

2.Who this policy applies to

Everyone who works with or for CurioKids: our staff, our salaried and pay-per-lesson teachers, and anyone else who has contact with children through CurioKids.

3.How we check teachers

  • Every teacher applies and tells us about their teaching experience and qualifications.
  • They give us documents for our team to check, such as teaching certificates, proof of identity and a background check.
  • Our team reviews every application.
  • A teacher can’t see children’s details or be booked for lessons until our team has confirmed their background check, they have signed our teaching agreement and we have approved them. Our system enforces this.
  • Teachers our team adds directly go through the same checks.
  • We can remove a teacher’s access at any time.

4.Keeping lessons safe

  • Lessons are 1-to-1 and happen only inside the CurioKids classroom. Teachers must never arrange lessons or contact with a child outside CurioKids.
  • Teachers can’t send messages to children. Teachers and parents can message each other, and messaging isn’t available in child mode.
  • Messages block the sharing of personal contact details. In the classroom, on the website and in the app, chat messages are saved and checked automatically for contact details and bad language.
  • Teachers must never ask a child for personal information, photos or contact details, or share their own.
  • Teachers teach from a quiet, suitable place, and dress and behave professionally.
  • Lessons may be recorded to protect children and teachers. Our Privacy Policy explains how.
  • Anyone in a lesson can use “Report a concern” without leaving it.

5.How families can help

  • Set up your child’s device in a shared family space, and stay nearby, especially with younger children.
  • Turn on child mode, protected by your PIN, when your child uses CurioKids.
  • Tell your child they can always tell you if anything in a lesson makes them feel uncomfortable.
  • Never share your own contact details with a teacher, and tell us if a teacher asks for them.

6.How to report a concern

You don’t need to be sure that something is wrong to tell us. If you are worried, report it.

  • In the app: press “Report a concern”. It is in every lesson and throughout the app. If you report from a lesson, the lesson and the people in it are attached to your report automatically.
  • By email: write to our safeguarding lead at hello@curiokidslearning.com.
  • In an emergency: call the police on 999 (Singapore and Malaysia) first.

  • Our team reviews every report as a priority.

  • We make sure the records about the concern are kept, such as the lesson details, messages, classroom chat and any recording.
  • We tell the police or child-protection services when a child may be at risk of harm, or when the law requires it.
  • We keep reports confidential and share them only with people who need to know.
  • We tell the person who reported the concern what we can, while protecting everyone involved.
