Getting started

What is CurioKids?

CurioKids gives children aged 4–12 live, 1-to-1 online English lessons with a real teacher. Each lesson is 25 minutes, in the CurioKids online classroom with video, an interactive whiteboard, slides and games. Children start with Phonics Starter, learning to read sound by sound, then move on to CEFR-based levels.

How CurioKids works

How do I book the free first lesson?

Choose “Book a free lesson”, create your parent account, add your child and pick a time for their free first lesson. You don't need a card. Your child then joins a live 25-minute lesson with a real teacher in the CurioKids online classroom, and you decide afterwards whether to continue.

Do I need a card for the free first lesson?

No. Your child's first lesson is free and you don't need a card to book it. You only add payment details if your child wants to continue and you choose a plan. If you decide not to continue, there is nothing to cancel and nothing to pay.

What happens in the free first lesson?

Your child meets a teacher for a live 25-minute lesson in the CurioKids classroom. The teacher gets to know your child, checks their English and records a starting level, so lessons begin in the right place. You see how lessons work before you choose whether to continue.

Which ages are CurioKids lessons for?

Lessons are for children aged 4–12. Phonics Starter teaches reading sound by sound. Most children start with Phonics Starter; a child who already reads can be placed straight into a CEFR-based level after the free first lesson. Every lesson is 1-to-1, so the teacher can go at your child's pace.

Lessons

How long is each lesson, and who is in it?

Every lesson is 25 minutes long and 1-to-1: just your child and their teacher, live on video in the CurioKids online classroom. Because nobody else is in the lesson, the teacher's attention stays on your child from start to finish, and the lesson moves at your child's pace.

What happens in a lesson?

The teacher says hello and warms up with sounds or words, then introduces something new on the lesson slides. Your child practises blending, reading and speaking on the interactive whiteboard, plays games that use the new sounds or words, and finishes with a quick recap together.

Inside a 25-minute lesson

How many lessons a week can my child have?

Choose Starter for 1 lesson a week, Growth for 2 or Accelerator for 3. Every 4-week cycle has an exact number of lessons: 4 on Starter, 8 on Growth and 12 on Accelerator. Each lesson is 25 minutes, 1-to-1 with a real teacher, and you can change your plan at any time.

Can I cancel a single lesson?

Yes. You can cancel a single lesson up to 2 hours before it starts. Cancelling one lesson is different from cancelling your plan. You can cancel your plan anytime too, and plan cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period.

Should I stay with my child during lessons?

You don't need to join the lesson, but we suggest a parent or carer stays nearby, especially with younger children. It helps with any technical problems and means you're close by if your child needs you. Lessons only happen inside the CurioKids classroom, and there is a “Report a concern” button in every lesson.

Pricing and billing

How much do lessons cost?

In Singapore, plans cost S$79, S$139 or S$199 every 4 weeks, from S$16.58 per lesson. In Malaysia they cost RM119, RM199 or RM279, from RM23.25 per lesson. Starter has 1 lesson a week, Growth 2 and Accelerator 3. Your first lesson is free, and you can pay weekly instead.

See every plan and price

What's the difference between paying every 4 weeks and weekly?

Every plan can be billed every 4 weeks or weekly, for the same lessons. Paying every 4 weeks costs less than four weekly payments: in Singapore, for example, Starter is S$79 every 4 weeks or S$21 a week. Paying weekly means smaller payments.

Why do you bill every 4 weeks instead of monthly?

Calendar months have different numbers of days, so the number of weekly lessons in a month changes from month to month. Billing every 4 weeks means every cycle has an exact number of lessons: 4 on Starter, 8 on Growth and 12 on Accelerator. You always know what you're paying for.

Which currency will I pay in?

Families in Singapore see and pay prices in Singapore dollars (SGD). Families in Malaysia see and pay prices in Malaysian ringgit (MYR). Families in every other country see our prices in Singapore dollars and pay in SGD. The country you choose when you sign up sets your currency.

We live outside Singapore and Malaysia. What prices do we see?

Families outside Singapore and Malaysia see our prices in Singapore dollars and pay in SGD. The plans, the free first lesson and the offer are the same. Lessons are online, so check that the lesson times on offer suit your time zone.

Is there an offer right now?

Yes, in Singapore. Launch offer: 50% off your first 4 weeks for the first 50 families, until 30 November 2026. For example, Growth is S$69.50 instead of S$139 for the first 4 weeks. Standard prices apply from the second cycle.

Will my price go up later?

Your price is locked on your subscription, so future price changes don't affect you. If we change our prices for new families later, you keep the prices of your subscription, even if you switch plans. Until you subscribe, the prices shown are today's prices. The offer is separate: it only applies to your first 4-week cycle.

When will I be charged?

Never for the free first lesson. You're charged when you subscribe to a plan, and then at the start of each billing period, every 4 weeks or every week, at the price locked on your subscription. If you cancel, you aren't charged again after the end of your current billing period.

Can I change my plan?

Yes. You can change your plan at any time, for example from Starter to Growth if your child is ready for more lessons each week, or back again. Your new plan uses the prices locked on your subscription, so future price changes don't affect you.

How do I cancel?

You can cancel your plan anytime from your parent account. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period, so you aren't charged again after that. If you only want to miss one lesson, cancel that single lesson instead, up to 2 hours before it starts.

Can I get a refund?

When you cancel, you're not charged for future billing periods, and your plan runs until the end of the period you've already paid for. Whether a payment can be refunded depends on the situation: our refund policy sets out when refunds apply and how to ask for one.

Teachers and safety

Who are the teachers?

Every lesson is live with a real teacher in the CurioKids online classroom. We're hiring our founding teaching team, with salaried positions and pay-per-lesson contracts. We don't publish teacher profiles on this website: your child meets a teacher in their free first lesson. Every teacher is checked before they can teach.

About our teachers

How are teachers checked?

Teachers can't teach until our team has confirmed a background check and they have signed our teaching agreement, which includes our safeguarding rules. Only our team can approve a teacher. Teachers also agree not to contact children or families outside CurioKids or share personal contact details.

How we keep children safe

How do I report a concern?

Press “Report a concern”: the button is in every lesson and throughout the app. Our team is alerted as soon as you send a report. You can also email hello@curiokidslearning.com. If a child is in immediate danger, call the police or emergency services first.

What happens after a report

Can teachers contact my child outside lessons?

No. Lessons happen only inside the CurioKids classroom, and our teaching agreement doesn't allow teachers to contact children or families outside CurioKids or to share personal contact details. Messages on CurioKids block the sharing of personal contact details. If anyone tries, please report it.

What is child mode?

Child mode lets your child use CurioKids on your device while you stay in control. It is protected by a PIN, so only you can switch back to your parent account, and your child can't change your plan or payment details. There are no ads or third-party trackers in the children's app.

Technology

What do we need for lessons?

A device with a camera and microphone, a reliable internet connection and a quiet place to learn. Lessons happen in the CurioKids online classroom, which your child joins from your CurioKids account. Headphones can help your child hear the sounds clearly, which matters for phonics.

Which devices can my child join lessons on?

A laptop or desktop computer, or a tablet, with an up-to-date version of Chrome, Edge or Safari, a camera and a microphone. A phone works too, but the lesson slides and whiteboard are easier to see on a bigger screen. On an Android phone or tablet, join in Chrome.

What is in the online classroom?

The CurioKids classroom has live video, an interactive whiteboard, lesson slides and games, all in one place. Your child and the teacher see each other, work on the same whiteboard and play games together. There are no ads or third-party trackers inside the classroom.

Progress and levels

What will my child learn?

Phonics Starter is 52 lessons in 10 units, from letter sounds to reading sentences, followed by CEFR-based levels Pre-A1, A1 and A2. CEFR Pre-A1, A1 and A2 correspond to the Cambridge English Young Learners levels Starters, Movers and Flyers. CurioKids is not affiliated with or endorsed by Cambridge University Press and Assessment.

See the curriculum

How will I know how my child is doing?

After lessons, your child's teacher gives feedback and you can follow progress in your parent dashboard. While your child is in Phonics Starter, it shows how far through the course they are. AI-assisted lesson summaries are drafted from the teacher's notes and clearly labelled as AI-assisted.

What are CEFR levels?

The CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) describes language ability in levels from Pre-A1 up to C2. CurioKids uses CEFR-based levels Pre-A1, A1 and A2 after Phonics Starter. CEFR Pre-A1, A1 and A2 correspond to the Cambridge English Young Learners levels Starters, Movers and Flyers. CurioKids is not affiliated with or endorsed by Cambridge University Press and Assessment.

CEFR and Cambridge levels explained

Does my child get certificates?

Yes. Each time your child's teacher assesses them at a higher level, your child moves up and you get a level-up certificate as a PDF. Moving from Phonics Starter into Pre-A1 counts too. You can keep the certificates and follow your child's progress in your parent dashboard.

What are AI-assisted lesson summaries?

After a lesson, a short summary can be drafted with the help of AI from the notes your child's teacher writes. Every AI-assisted summary is clearly labelled as AI-assisted, so you always know. The teacher's own feedback is there too, alongside your child's progress in your dashboard.

Privacy

Where is our data stored?

Your family's data is hosted on AWS in Singapore. Payments are handled by Stripe, so card details go to Stripe rather than to us. Our privacy policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have, including how to contact us about your data.

Read our privacy policy

Do you see my card number?

No. Payments are handled by Stripe, and CurioKids never sees your full card number. You add your card only when your child continues after the free first lesson and you choose a plan. Your price is locked on your subscription.

Are there ads or trackers?

There are no ads or third-party trackers inside the classroom or the children's app. Our public website asks before using analytics or advertising cookies, and you can change your choice at any time with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page on this site.
