How much do CurioKids lessons cost in Malaysia?

There are three plans, and the only difference between them is how many lessons your child has each week. Every lesson is the same: live, 1-to-1 and 25 minutes long, with a real teacher in the CurioKids online classroom. These are the standard prices for families in Malaysia, paid in Malaysian ringgit:

CurioKids plans in Malaysia: standard prices in Malaysian ringgit
PlanLessonsEvery 4 weeksPer lessonOr weekly
Starter1 a week (4 every 4 weeks)RM139RM34.75RM37 a week
Growth2 a week (8 every 4 weeks)RM229RM28.63RM61 a week
Accelerator3 a week (12 every 4 weeks)RM319RM26.58RM85 a week

Prices are per 4-week billing period in your local currency. Your first lesson is free, with no card needed until you continue. Change or cancel anytime.

The per-lesson price is the 4-weekly price divided by the lessons in those 4 weeks: 4 on Starter, 8 on Growth and 12 on Accelerator. So Accelerator costs the least per lesson, and Starter costs the least overall. If an offer is running for families in Malaysia, our Malaysia pricing page shows it and its terms.

What is included in the price?

The plan price covers your child's lessons and everything around them. There is no separate charge for the classroom or for following your child's progress:

  • A live lesson with a real teacher. Each lesson is 25 minutes, 1-to-1, for children aged 4 to 12.
  • The CurioKids online classroom. Live video, an interactive whiteboard, lesson slides and games, all in one place.
  • A structured course. Phonics Starter is 52 lessons in 10 units, from letter sounds to reading sentences, followed by CEFR-based levels Pre-A1, A1 and A2. Most children start with Phonics Starter; a child who already reads can be placed straight into a CEFR-based level after the free first lesson.
  • Feedback and progress. Your child's teacher gives feedback after lessons, you follow progress in your parent dashboard, and you get a certificate (PDF) when your child moves up a level.
  • Safety built in. Teachers can't teach until our team has confirmed a background check and they have signed our teaching agreement, and lessons happen only inside the CurioKids classroom.

How does billing work?

Plans bill every 4 weeks rather than every calendar month. Months have different numbers of days, so the number of weekly lessons in a month changes; 4-week billing means every cycle has an exact number of lessons. That makes 13 payments a year.

If you prefer smaller payments, every plan can be billed weekly instead, for the same lessons. Paying every 4 weeks costs less than four weekly payments: Starter, for example, is RM139 every 4 weeks or RM37 a week.

You pay nothing for the free first lesson. You're charged when you subscribe to a plan, and then at the start of each billing period. Your price is locked on your subscription, so future price changes don't affect you. Payments are handled by Stripe, and CurioKids never sees your full card number.

Is the first lesson really free?

Yes. You create a parent account, add your child and book the free first lesson without a card. In that 25-minute lesson the teacher gets to know your child, checks their English and records a starting level, so lessons begin in the right place. You decide afterwards whether to continue. If you don't, there is nothing to cancel and nothing to pay. Our guide on what to look for in a free first lesson explains how to judge it.

Can I change plan or cancel?

Yes. You can move between plans at any time, for example from Starter to Growth when your child is ready for more lessons, or back again. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. Plan changes are prorated, except in the few cases our Terms set out, where a change starts at the end of a billing period; the app shows which before you confirm. A single lesson can be cancelled up to 2 hours before it starts.

Cancelling a single lesson is different from cancelling your plan: use it when your child is ill or the family is away, and keep the plan running.

How does a 1-to-1 lesson compare with a group class for the money?

Group classes often cost less per hour, because several families share one teacher. What you are buying is different, though. In a group, the teacher's attention and the speaking time are shared, and the lesson moves at the group's pace. In a 1-to-1 lesson, every minute is your child's: they speak for much more of the lesson, and the teacher can slow down on a tricky sound or skip what your child already knows.

That is why a 25-minute 1-to-1 lesson can hold as much speaking practice as a much longer group class. Group classes have real benefits too, such as learning alongside other children. Our guide 1-to-1 or group English classes: which suits my child? compares them in detail.

Which plan should I choose?

Most families decide by how much regular English their child needs and how busy the week is:

  • Starter, 1 lesson a week: a steady habit alongside school, or a child who mainly wants speaking practice.
  • Growth, 2 lessons a week: regular practice that suits a child building reading with phonics, with less time to forget between lessons.
  • Accelerator, 3 lessons a week: a child who hears little English at home or has a gap to close, as long as they aren't too tired.

You can start with one plan and change it as you see how your child responds. Our guide how many English lessons a week does my child need? goes through the choice step by step.

What should I compare when looking at other lesson prices?

Prices for children's English lessons are quoted in many ways, so compare like with like:

  • The price per lesson, and how long each lesson is.
  • How many children are in the lesson, and whether the teacher is live or the lesson is recorded.
  • How you're billed: per lesson, monthly, per term or every 4 weeks, and whether you pay in advance.
  • What happens when your child is ill or you're away, and how you cancel.
  • Any registration, materials or assessment fees on top of the lesson price.
  • For lessons in person, the time and cost of getting there each week.
