How much do CurioKids lessons cost in Hong Kong?
Families in Hong Kong choose between three plans, set by how often your child has a lesson: 1 lesson a week on Starter, 2 on Growth and 3 on Accelerator. The lesson is identical on each plan: live, 1-to-1 and 25 minutes long, with a real teacher in the CurioKids online classroom.

The price of each lesson falls as you add lessons each week, and Starter is the plan with the smallest total. There is nothing extra to pay for course materials or the parent dashboard.
Do families in Hong Kong pay in Hong Kong dollars?
Yes. Choose Hong Kong as your country when you create your parent account, and every CurioKids price is shown in Hong Kong dollars, which is also the currency your card is charged in. With a card from a Hong Kong bank, the amount on your statement matches the price you chose, with no conversion in between.
Payments go through Stripe, and CurioKids never sees your full card number. A bank outside Hong Kong may convert the amount at its own rate.
What does a CurioKids plan include?
Every plan includes the same: live, 1-to-1, 25-minute lessons with a real teacher for children aged 4 to 12, in the CurioKids online classroom with video, an interactive whiteboard, lesson slides and games. Most children start with Phonics Starter, our 52-lesson reading course, then move through CEFR-based levels Pre-A1, A1 and A2. Teachers give feedback after lessons, you follow progress in your parent dashboard, and there is no charge for materials. See our curriculum and safety pages.
In Hong Kong, where English is taught from Primary 1 and children learn to read Chinese characters at the same time, phonics matters: it shows a child how to sound out an English word instead of memorising its shape like a character. The rest of each lesson keeps your child talking.
How does billing every 4 weeks fit the Hong Kong school year?
Schools in Hong Kong generally start the year in September, with breaks around Christmas, Lunar New Year and Easter, and a long summer holiday. A calendar month can have four or five Tuesdays, for example; billing every 4 weeks avoids that, so each payment buys the same number of lessons whether it falls in a short February or a long August.
Plans bill every 4 weeks, not by calendar month, so every billing period has the same number of lessons: 13 payments a year. Every plan can be paid weekly instead, and paying every 4 weeks costs less than four weekly payments. You're charged when you subscribe and then at the start of each billing period. Your price is locked on your subscription, so future price changes don't affect you. You can change plan or cancel anytime, and cancel a single lesson up to 2 hours before it starts.
If your family travels over Lunar New Year or in the summer, cancel the lessons that clash and the plan carries on. In a crowded term, drop to Starter for a while.
When would lessons happen in Hong Kong time?
When you book, every lesson time is shown in Hong Kong time. Hong Kong doesn't change its clocks, so the slot you pick in September is still at the same hour in June. On a school day, roughly 4pm to 8pm works for most families, between homework, tutorial classes and dinner, and because the 25-minute lesson is at home, no time goes on the MTR or a bus. On Saturdays and Sundays, a morning slot often suits younger children.
A fixed weekly time is easier to keep than one moved around a crowded timetable. See do online lessons count as screen time?.
Which plan suits a child in Hong Kong?
Think about how much English your child uses each week, at school and at home, and how much room the week has:
- Starter, 1 lesson a week: a child at a school with plenty of English who wants one relaxed conversation a week, or a family whose weekdays are already packed with activities.
- Growth, 2 lessons a week: a child who understands English but rarely speaks it, or a younger child working through phonics who benefits from shorter gaps between lessons.
- Accelerator, 3 lessons a week: a child who speaks Cantonese at home and meets little English outside school, or one heading for a secondary school that teaches most subjects in English, provided they still have time to rest.
You can move between plans whenever you like. Our guide how many English lessons a week does my child need? works through the decision, and online English lessons for children in Hong Kong explains how English fits school here.
How does the cost compare with tutorial centres and private tutors?
Hong Kong families can choose tutorial centre classes built around school work and exams, private tutors at home, play-based classes for younger children, or lessons online. Each sets fees its own way, so compare what your child actually gets:
- The fee for one lesson, and its length in minutes.
- Class size, and how many minutes your child talks rather than listens.
- Whether worksheets, books or assessments cost extra.
- How the fee is charged, how far ahead you pay, and the rules for missed lessons.
- Travel time across town, and whether someone has to wait during the class.
Tutorial centre classes often cost less per hour because the teacher is shared; in a 1-to-1 lesson, your child has the teacher's full attention. For more on how the two differ, read 1-to-1 or group English classes: which suits my child?.
Is the first lesson free, and when can families in Hong Kong start?
It is. You set up a parent account, add your child and book the first lesson with no card. The teacher spends the 25 minutes getting to know your child and their English, so the next lessons start at the right point: Phonics Starter for most children, or a CEFR-based level for a child who already reads. If you choose not to go on, there's nothing to pay.
Lessons open country by country. If lessons for families in Hong Kong haven't opened yet, you'll see a waitlist in place of the prices on this page. To know what a good first lesson looks like, read what to look for in a free first lesson.

Frequently asked questions
Are CurioKids prices for Hong Kong in Hong Kong dollars?
Yes. Families in Hong Kong see and pay every CurioKids price in Hong Kong dollars. The country you choose when you create your parent account decides the currency.
Can an online lesson replace a tutorial centre class?
Sometimes. A tutorial centre class often follows school work, while a 1-to-1 lesson follows your child. In a full week, one in place of the other saves travel time.
Is CurioKids linked to school exams in Hong Kong?
No. CurioKids follows its own CEFR-based curriculum and isn't linked to any local exam. The speaking, listening and reading your child builds help with whatever tests they take at school.
What happens to my plan over the summer holidays?
Your plan keeps running unless you change it. You can cancel single lessons you'll miss, move to a plan with fewer lessons, or cancel the plan, which takes effect at the end of the billing period.
